6:30 p.m. Gather in Social Hall – Welcome and explanation by Rabbi Alicia Magal Layers of history, meaning, and mysticism in the festival of Shavuot.
6:45 p.m. First Study Session –Taught by Rabbi Magal The Book of Ruth; a study in compassion, cooperation, and conversion.
7:30 p.m. Break for traditional dairy Shavuot refreshments
JCSVV members, contact Rabbi Magal if you would like to bring cheese cake, blintz souffle, and other dairy delights, including gluten-free dishes and fruit.
7:45 p.m. Second Study Session – Taught by Paul Friedman The Eternal Spirit of Shavuot: In Jewish Stories and Daily Life The holiday of Shavuot celebrates our receiving the Gift of the Torah at Mount Sinai. In this session we will hear some exceptional Jewish Wisdom stories and discuss the many ways generosity has blessed our lives.
8:30 p.m. Move to the Sanctuary, decorated with flowers and green branches. This part of the program will be livestreamed and accessible on Zoom.
We hear the Ten Commandments chanted as we receive the gift of Torah once more. An updated “Ketubah” will be read that reaffirms our Covenant between the Holy One and the People of Israel.
