In the JCSVV Synagogue Parking Lot
Help us to celebrate the New Year of the Trees with a planting and tour of the trees on our synagogue grounds.
On Sunday, February 1st at noon, we will meet in the parking lot to celebrate Tu B’Shevat, the New Year of the Trees. The 15th of Shevat on the Jewish calendar is the day that marks the beginning of a “new year” for trees. This day marks the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel
emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle. Joe Berger will give talk about trees and walk us around the grounds of our synagogue to point out the trees and other plants that we have planted over the years.
After Joe’s presentation outside we will go inside to the Social Hall for a presentation by Jeff Silverman, Associate Director of the Jewish National Fund, an organization which includes planting trees in Israel as part of its mission.
Afterwards, join us for snacks made by our members from recipes that include ingredients from trees. Many foods come from trees, not just dates, apricots, apples and nuts but also olives, avocados, bananas and even chocolate. If you can make a snack of “food from trees” to share, please contact
Michelle Wolfenbarger and let her know what you will bring.
Come, bring a friend, enjoy community!
