Yizkor, Shavuot and the Book of Ruth
Shavuot program in a whole new format!
The JCSVV invites everyone to participate in an engaging exploration of the Book of Ruth as part of a combined program for the close of the Festival of Shavuot on Saturday evening, May 23, beginning at 6:00 pm with Yizkor, a brief memorial service that traditionally is held on Yom Kippur and at the conclusion of the festivals of Sukkot, Passover, and Shavuot.
After a break for traditional dairy and fruit refreshments, like blintzes and cheesecake, the group will reassemble to delve more deeply into the challenges faced by each of the characters in the Book of Ruth, set at this time of the wheat harvest in Ancient Israel. The interactive program: “Crossroads: Challenges and Choices – An interactive Shavuot Bibliodrama on the characters of the Book of Ruth” has been created and will be led by Dr. Anita Rosenfield and Rabbi Magal.
At the conclusion of the evening, everyone will gather for a Havdalah prayer circle with braided candle, wine, and spices to mark the end of Shabbat and the entry into the new week.
Please RSVP to Rabbi Magal at and also indicate if you will bring a dairy or fruit dessert.
