A NEW FORMAT: A MONTHLY IN-PERSON DISCUSSION GROUP

“Sapir Conversations: Exploring Ideas for a Thriving Jewish Future”

“Sapir Conversations” will be a series of informal, enjoyable small group conversations (limited to 12 members), held monthly, on Sunday mornings from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. (MST), exploring issues raised in thought-provoking articles from a new journal Sapir, that “explores the future of the American Jewish community and its intersection with cultural, social, and news-making issues.”

Sapir is edited by NY Times columnist Bret Stephens and published by the Maimonides Fund.  The article authors are prominent contemporary American Jewish “intellectuals.”  Each theme-based issue is available for free download at https://sapirjournal.org/archive/#issue

The group’s conversation is intended for us to know each other better, exchange ideas about Jewish life in America (past, present, and future), grow from hearing each person’s unique perspective, and have a stimulating Sunday morning experience. The format will maximize member flexibility. Each session will be discrete, focusing on a single issue/theme so members can miss occasional sessions and jump right back in upon returning. We’ll read in advance only half the articles in each issue, selecting those that interest us most (i.e., no “required” reading) and then devote about 15 minutes of group discussion per article. The group will meet on the second Sunday of the month, beginning July 9th.
