Sephardic Jewry

A new course will be starting up on January 10, 2023 on Sephardic Jewry. The course will be taught by JCSVV members Sheldon Hersh and Richard Witlin. The course will explore the origins of the Jewish presence in the Iberian Peninsula (specifically, Spain) and the history of the Jews in Spain and their eventual expulsion from Spain in 1492. The continuing and important impact of Sephardic Jews on world Jewry today will be discussed. Unique Sephardic customs and the differences between Sephardic and Ashkenazic Jewry will also be explored.
